Die Guntschnabahn führte seit dem 12. August 1912 von der Marktgemeinde Gries zum Hotel Reichrieglerhof (Guntschna) hinauf. Bei einer maximalen Steigung von bis zu 67% und einem Höhenunterschied von 186 m konnte die Bahn bis zu 300 Personen pro Richtung und Stunde transportiert werden. Die Talstation lag günstig gelegen an einer Haltestelle der Straßenbahn Bozen auf Grieser Seite, in der herrschaftlichen Defreggerstraße. Die Standseilbahn war so langsam unterwegs, dass die Fahrgäste imstande waren, Brombeeren und Himbeeren entlang der Trasse von den wilden Sträuchern abzuernten.Am 31. März 1966 wurde die Bahn geschlossen. Heute ist nur noch ein Teil der Bahntrasse sichtbar, wenn man über die Guntschnapromenade wandert und sie über eine Brücke überquert.
