Das Museum hat seinen Hauptausstellungsort im Prinzen Palais in Kopenhagen. Hier wird dem Besucher ein berblick über die gesamte Kulturgeschichte des Landes geboten. Daneben unterhält das Dänische Nationalmuseum weitere Standorte mit Sammlungen und Ausstellungen zu spezielleren Themen, wie das Freiheitsmuseum (Friehedsmuseet), das den Widerstand der Dänen gegen die deutschen Besatzer im 2. Weltkrieg zum Thema hat, das Musikhistorische Museum oder das Freilichtmuseum des Dänischen Nationalmuseums, welches sich nördlich von Kopenhagen in Lyngby befindet. Das Internierungslager Frslev ein Teil des ehemaligen deutschen Gefangenenlagers in Südjütland ist heute Museum und gehört mit seiner Ausstellung über den Widerstand im 2. Weltkrieg und die Weißen Busse ebenfalls zum Dänischen Nationalmuseum.
