Bis zur Säkularisation war das Kloster, das der Legende nach von Ritter Brömser gegründet worden war, nachdem einer seiner Bauern das Gnadenbild vom Blutschwitzenden Heiland beim Pflügen gefunden und zugleich den Ruf "Noth Gottes" gehört hatte, von Kapuzinern bewohnt. In der frühen Neuzeit war Noth Gottes ein beliebter Wallfahrtsort. In der Gegenwart kommt in jedem Jahr am ersten September-Sonntag eine Fußwallfahrt aus Kruft in Noth Gottes an. Die Wallfahrer, deren Zahl zwischen 100 und 150 schwankt, brechen zwei Tage zuvor in ihrem Heimatort auf. Die älteste nachweisbare Wallfahrt aus Kruft kam 1674 nach Noth Gottes.
