Das Gymnasium wurde im Jahr 1604 gegründet, im selben Jahr durch Papst Clemens VIII. approbiert. 1948 wurde es mit Blick auf den Zweiten Weltkrieg nach dem bedeutenden, aus Konstanz stammenden Mystiker Heinrich (von) Suso bzw. Heinrich Seuse benannt, um den Wert der Herzensbildung im Nachkriegsdeutschland zu betonen. Ein anderes berühmtes Kind der Stadt Konstanz, der Rechtsgelehrte Ulrich Zasius, stand ebenfalls als Namensgeber zur Debatte. Latein ab der 5. Klasse, Englisch ab der 5. Klasse, Altgriechisch, alternativ Französisch oder NWT (Natur, Wissenschaft &, Technik) ab der 9. Klasse. Nach der 10. Klasse kann Latein abgewählt werden und dafür Spanisch als vierte Fremdsprache genommen werden.
