Die Siedlung geht zurück auf den russischen Generalkonsul und Kaufmann in Lübeck Karl von Schlözer (1780-1859), der im Jahr 1845 vier Parzellen Land in der Israelsdorfer Feldmark von der Stadt Lübeck pachtete um dort ein Sommerhaus zu errichten. [1] Er erhielt die Erlaubnis, diese Ansiedlung Karlshof zu nennen. [2] Schlözers Schwester Dorothea von Schlözer war die erste Frau in Deutschland, die einen Doktortitel erlangte. Das Sommerhaus wurde am 6.Mai 1898 an die Stadt Lübeck verkauft und ab 1900 als Dienstwohnung für den städtischen Förster genutzt.
