Der Name Ried ist mit grosser Wahrscheinlichkeit vom alemannischen reuten oder roden herzuleiten. Bereits Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts erlangte Ried-Brig das Dorfrecht. Das Dorf Ried-Brig machte in den letzten 40 Jahren einen enormen Wandel vom Bauerndorf zu einer der bevorzugten Wohngemeinden des Oberwallis durch. Die Statistik der Bevölkerungsentwicklung zeigt dies eindrücklich. Die hervorragende geografische Lage auf der natürlichen Terrasse oberhalb der Talzentren sowie das aktive Vereinsleben sind Qualitäten die von den Einwohnern geschätzt werden.
