Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau built the palace for his mistress Salome Alt, with whom he had 15 children. In 1721, Prince Archbishop Franz Anton Prince von Harrach commissioned Lukas von Hildebrandt to redesign the palace and the Mirabell Gardens. Apart from the magnificent marble staircase and the marble hall, most of the palace was destroyed in a fire in 1818. Peter de Nobile gave the castle its present form. Free visit of the Marble Hall (wedding hall): Mon, Wed, Thu: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Tue and Fri: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. (viewing is not possible during wedding ceremonies
