UNESCO Weltkulturerbe - Hansestadt Lübeck
Sight /
In 1987, Unesco included Lübeck´s old town, the historic city center of Lübeck, as Germany´s largest area monument as a World Heritage Site.
The historic city center is actually an approx. 150 hectare island, surrounded by water and accessible via several bridges. You can also see the remains of the earlier ramparts, the remains of the medieval city wall with the preserved city gates Burgtor and Holstentor.
The tour in the city center is calculated for pedestrians/bicycles and should not be driven with a mobile home or car!
The old town is characterized by the seven towers of the five main evangelical churches.
The old town is now one of ten districts of Lübeck and is inhabited mostly in small houses by around 14,000 people.
