Barolo is mainly known for the red wine ´Barolo´, which is named after him and is valued worldwide. It is one of the best red wines in Italy.
Apart from the renowned wineries, the medieval castle (Castello Falletti) is also worth seeing. The castle is part of an earlier one. Defense system (10th century) against the Saracens. The Falletti merchants took over Barolo in 1250 and built forts on the surrounding hills. to protect their property.
Giulia Colbert Faletti, a French woman and wife of the last Falletti, left the local Nebbiolo grapes in the castle´s cellar around 1830. pressed by winegrowers from their French homeland. This became the famous ´Barolo´.
