Stift Börstel

The only free-world women´s convent in the Osnabrück region can be found in the Börsteler Forest near Berge. Founded in 1245, the convent moved to its current location in 1251. The Reformation prevailed here and since 1560 it has been called the Stift. Seats are reserved for 10 women, 8 Protestant and 2 Catholic. This dates back to 1625. At that time, five professed to be Lutherans and two to be Catholics. Three ladies could not clearly define their confession.
