Pfarrkirche St. Veit
Sight / church
The parish church of St. Veit in Krems an der Donau is a Roman Catholic church, also known as the Wachau Cathedral. It goes back to a donation from Emperor Henry II in 1014 and is the largest parish church in the diocese of St. Pölten. The church was built between 1616 and 1630 according to plans by the master builders Cypriano Biasino and Johann Baptist Spazio and was one of the first baroque churches north of the Alps.
In the early twelfth century the parish church was built as a Romanesque basilica with a low tower. The church has beautiful decorations, many statues, colorful stained glass windows and impressive murals, especially over the magnificent organ.
