Niederwalddenkmal

The Niederwald Monument in Rüdesheim am Rhein is a national monument that commemorates Germany´s victory in the Franco-Prussian War of 187071. The location was chosen in the spring of 1871 on the Niederwald near Rüdesheim. Construction of the monument began in 1877 and was completed in 1883. The monument is 38 meters high and shows a Germania statue, which stands for the German nation and unity. The Niederwald Monument has played an important role in German history and is now one of the most visited monuments in Germany.
