Puente Romano
Sight / Bridge
The Puente Romano (Roman Bridge) in the Spanish city of Córdoba, also called Puente Viejo (Old Bridge), is a bridge over the Guadalquivir built by the Romans after the Battle of Munda (45 BC). It has 16 arches and was once part of the Via Augusta. The bridge was completely renovated in the 10th century by the caliph, who was then residing in Córdoba, and renovated several times after the Reconquista. It offers wonderful panoramic views of Córdoba´s highlights, including the Mezquita Cathedral complex, the river, the Puerta de la Puente and the Puente Romano de Córdoba. The bridge was Cordoba´s only bridge for 20 centuries and is a masterpiece of Roman engineering. The view over the Mosque-Cathedral, the river, the bridge gate and the Roman Bridge of Córdoba itself is one of the most wonderful sights in Córdoba, especially at dusk, when the last rays of the sun turn the stone surfaces a deep golden red
