The Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin´s most famous landmarks and a symbol of the division and reunification of Germany. It was built between 1788 and 1791 at the behest of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II and is an important example of German classicism. The gate is 26 meters high, 65.5 meters long and 11 meters deep, and is supported by two rows of six Doric columns each. Architecturally, it represents one of the earliest and most attractive examples of a neoclassical building in Germany. After the construction of the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate stood in the middle of the restricted area and marked the border between West and East Berlin until 1990. Today it is a national symbol of peace and unity. It is a popular tourist destination and an important place in the history of Berlin and Germany.
The Brandenburg Gate can also be seen on the German 10, 20 and 50 cent coins and has a high symbolic value. It was an important setting in the history of the divided country and divided Berlin. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it became a symbol of German unity. The gate is located on Pariser Platz and is easily accessible by public transport, such as S-Bahn, subway and buses.
