Uphagen-Hus
Sight / building
The Uphagenhaus in Gdansk, Poland, is an important architectural monument built on Langgasse in the 1780s and 1780s. It was purchased by the Gdansk merchant and councilor Johann Uphagen, who commissioned the architect Johann Benjamin Dreyer to demolish the existing house and build a new community center. The house remained in the family until 1910 and was then converted into a museum. It is a unique testimony to the bourgeois living culture in Gdansk in the 18th century and combines elements of late baroque, rococo and early classicism. The Uphagenhaus was rebuilt by Poland after the war and finally completed with the help of the German-Polish company. Today it is a museum that offers a glimpse into the daily life of a wealthy citizen of the 18th century.
