Josephskreuz
Sight / observation tower
The Josephskreuz is a lookout tower in the form of a double cross built on the 580 m high Großer Auerberg between Stolberg and Straßberg in steel framework. The Joseph Cross is 38 m high and is the largest double cross in the world. The construction is held together by around 100,000 rivets. The cross can be reached on foot as follows: from the car park at the Forsthaus Auerberg (enough parking spaces) in about 15 - 20 minutes on foot on a wide paved hiking trail or from the Harzhotel Schindelbruch (enough parking spaces) on the hiking trail Straße der Lieder (14 song stations with song lyrics on panels).

The Josephshöhe, the largest elevation of the Großer Auerberg near Stolberg, is best reached from the large hiking car park at the Auerberg guest house (the guest house was closed in 2018). [ click for more information ]
