The Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam is a museum that deals with colonial heritage and ethnological topics. It was built in 1926 as an addition to the Colonial Institute and displays objects from the former colonial territories of the Netherlands, such as Suriname, the Caribbean and Indonesia. The museum has a new permanent exhibition called !Our Colonial Heritage!, which critically reflects on the interconnections between colonialism and ethnology. It is known for its large collection of artifacts from non-Western cultures and offers exhibitions on art, culture and colonialism. The Tropenmuseum was originally founded as a colonial museum to inform the Dutch population about life in the then Dutch colonies.
