St. Johann Baptist
Church / church
The church was built in the 9th century as a Romanesque hall church with a rectangular chancel. The tower followed 900 years later. With the Reformation, Jena became completely evangelical. Napoleon Bonaparte donated the church to a small group of Catholics after his victory in Auerstedt. Since that time the church has been the only Roman Catholic Korche in Jena. The organ of the church has an eventful history. In 1822, the organ builder Johann Christian Adam Gerhard from Dornburg delivered an instrument for 320 thalers. In 1910, a two-piece instrument by the organ builder Johannes Klais followed. Today´s organ with 1947 pipes in 36 registers dates from 2009.
