König-Oskar-II.-Kapelle
Church / Kapelle
The Evangelical Lutheran Church was completed and consecrated in 1869. Four years later, King Oskar II visited the church and donated a stone tablet, after which the little church finally got its current name König-Oskar-II. -Kapelle (Kong Oscar IIs kapell) received. It was built to signal to Russian fishermen that this was Norwegian territory, which they occasionally invaded to fish for salmon. In order to make it visible from afar, it was whitewashed for a long time. It only got its original color back on its centenary.
