Er verbindet das Tal des Lechs bei Warth auf 1676 ,m ,ü. ,A. mit dem Tal der Bregenzer Ach bei Schoppernau. ber den Hochtannbergpass verläuft die Bregenzerwaldstraße L200. Der Hochtannbergpass trennt die Allgäuer Alpen vom Lechquellengebirge. Eine Sicherheitssperre besteht kurzfristig im Winter bei entsprechender Wetter- bzw. Schneelage.
