Ákra Soúnion, also known as Cape Sounion, is a headland in the southeastern corner of Attica, Greece. It is a popular tourist destination and is known for the Temple of Poseidon, which sits atop the cape.
Cape Sounion was also an important place in ancient times. There was a town here with sanctuaries of Poseidon and Athena. Finds from Egypt indicate extensive trade, and ancient ship moorings from the 4th century BC. BC are still visible.
Today Cape is a popular tourist attraction, particularly because of the impressive sunsets.
The cape also offers beautiful beaches in the area, such as Sounion Beach, which offers a view of the Temple of Poseidon. There are also various villas and resorts in the area that provide a comfortable stay.
