Artstetten
Sight / lock
Artstetten Castle was first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. Countless conversions gave the castle its current appearance with the seven striking onion towers. The palace served as the summer residence of the imperial family. Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne, and his wife Sophie, who were assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914, found their final resting place here. Since 1982, the palace has also housed the ´Archduke Franz Ferdinand Museum´, in which the life of the Archduke and his family is brought closer to visitors. Particularly worth seeing: *Parish Church of the Holy Apostle James the Elder Ä. * Schlosspark * Familiengruft Audio guides are available for a tour of the castle. Open daily from April 1st to November 1st from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ticket office closes). 01.09.2017: PoiBesuc 08/2017 | very nice museum with history
