Königsresidenz Reales Alcazares
Sight / lock
The Alcázar of Seville, also known as Reales Alcázares de Sevilla, is the medieval royal palace of Seville. The complex has a long architectural history dating back to Moorish times and is still used today by the Spanish royal family as an official residence when they are in Seville. The palace is a representative monument complex that reflects the historical development of the city over the last millennium, merging influences from the Arab era to the Renaissance.
The Alcázar of Seville originally served as the residence of the Moorish Sultans and has been the official residence of the Spanish kings since the conquest in 1248, making it the oldest surviving royal residence in Europe. The complex has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and is one of the most remarkable palaces in Spain. The palace is also closed on January 1st and 6th, as well as on Good Friday and December 25th.
The Real Alcázar is a major tourist destination and one of the most popular attractions in Seville. The architecture of the palace is so fascinating that the water gardens of Dorne were filmed in the courtyards of the Real Alcázar Sevilla in the series !Game of Thrones!. The palace has gardens worth seeing that make a walk an unforgettable experience.
The Real Alcázar is, next to the cathedral, the second top attraction in Seville. To this day, the Spanish royal family uses part of the palace´s premises as a holiday home and for political visits. Highlights at the Real Alcázar include the patio of las Doncellas and the gardens of the Royal Palace.
