Jerpoint Abbey

Jerpoint Abbey (Irish: Mainistir Sheireapúin) is one of the most beautiful monastic ruins in Ireland. The monastery was probably built around 1180 by Donal Mac Gillapatrick, King of Ossory and the Cistercians. The abbey is of great architectural unity.
The complex consists of a cruciform nave, a chancel and transepts. The tower was added in the 15th century.
Jerpoint Abbey´s showpiece is the cloister with its unique stone carvings.
