Sight / Cave
On the German side of the Sauer, directly on the road from Bollendorf to Wallendorf, diagonally opposite the Dillinger Bridge, there is a sintered limestone grotto that is well worth seeing. A small parking lot is right next to the bridge. If you are not lucky there, you will find more parking spaces in Dillingen, on the Luxembourg side of the Sauer. However, the bridge is only approved up to 3.5 t. The entrance to the grotto is constantly sprinkled with calcareous spring water, which emerges from the mountain above the grotto. The constant moisture causes mosses to grow luxuriantly around the grotto entrance. The evaporating water coats the mosses with a calcareous crust and creates calcareous tufa on the cave edges and on the ground. The grotto is only accessible if you dare bravely through the veil of tears in front of the entrance.
