The Madraza of Granada, also known as Palacio de la Madraza or Madrasa Yusufiyya, is a historic building and former madrasa in Granada, Spain. Founded in 1349 by Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada, it was the city´s Moorish university for a long time. Today the building belongs to the University of Granada and is used primarily for cultural events. Located on Calle Oficios, the building is a significant example of the Mudejar style, which expanded and remodeled the original structure following the takeover of Granada by Christian Spain. It is managed by the University of Granada and since 2011 it has been open to the public again.
Current use and significance: The building is managed by the University of Granada and is used for cultural purposes. It serves as the headquarters of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias (!Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Our Lady of Sorrows!). Today the building has a very different appearance, having been expanded and remodeled in the Mudejar style following the takeover of Granada by Christian Spain.
Location and Architecture: The Madraza is located on Calle Oficios, near the main mosque (now the site of the Granada Cathedral) and the Alcaicería, the elite bazaar of the time, where silk, gold, linen and other fabrics were traded became.
