The Kumu Art Museum in Tallinn, Estonia, is the main building of the Art Museum of Estonia and the largest and most representative exhibition space in Estonia. The museum opened in 2006 and has the mission to preserve and interpret Estonian art from the 18th century to the present It presents both permanent collections and temporary exhibitions. The main collection includes Estonian art from the 18th century onwards, including works from the occupation period (1940-1991), showing both Socialist Realism and the non-conformist art of the time. The museum sees its role as being an initiator of social and cultural debates be, both in the art history exhibitions and in the contemporary art gallery, which is a source of new ideas for artists from Estonia and abroad
The Kumu Art Museum also offers its visitors a variety of experiences. There are both permanent and temporary exhibitions that provide an overview of Estonian art from different periods, including the Soviet era, modernity and the current Anthropocene era, showing the relationship between art and the environment. The museum also hosts various events and exhibitions , which can be found on the Kumu website
The Kumu Art Museum also offers dining options. The Reval Café in the museum offers a variety of food and drinks, including various breakfast options, pastries, cakes, salads, appetizers, pastas and soups. The museum also has a shop selling jewelry, textiles, glass and ceramics by well-known Estonian designers and artists, as well as reproductions of works of art from the collections of the Estonian Art Museum.
