Church / church
The Notre-Dame du Sablon, also known as Onze-Lieve-Vrouw ten Zavel, is an important Gothic church in Brussels. It was built between 1436 and the beginning of the 16th century in the Brabant Gothic style. The church is located on Sablon Square and is surrounded by a pleasant garden. It is known for its magnificent architecture and well-preserved features, including an intricately carved pulpit and two Baroque chapels at the rear. Entry is free and the church is a quiet place in the middle of the tourist crowds. In the 13th century the church was part of a large sandy area that was used as a cemetery. Today it is a popular destination for visitors and pilgrims and is considered one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Belgium .
The church was made the official church of the Belgian Lieutenancy of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem in September 1929. It houses an organ from 1764 that has 41 registers on three manuals and a pedal. The church is also known as Notre-Dame des Victoires du Sablon and has received various names over time. It is an important religious and architectural landmark in Brussels
