St.Josefskirche
Church / church
In 1629, the Camaldolese began building the monastery church on the Kahlenberg (484m), the most popular mountain for the Viennese. After a mass in the Josefskirche, the Polish king Jan Sobieski stormed Vienna with his army in 1683 and liberated the city from the Turks. 1902 the Resurrectionists (Polish priests) took over and renovated the baroque, single-nave church. In 1983 Pope John Paul II visited the church. Many Polish pilgrims also visit “their pilgrimage church” every year. The viewing platform in front of the church offers a wonderful view of Vienna and the Danube. 29.11.2015: PoiBesuch: 10/2015 |
