Großfürstliches Schloss Vilnius
Castle / Castle
Alexander Jagiello and Sigismund I the Elder originally had the castle built in the Gothic style around the middle of the 15th century. A baroque change took place in the 17th century. The palace was severely damaged after the Russian army captured Vilnius and could only partially continue to be used. Complete destruction took place after Lithuania was annexed to the Tsarist Empire in 1801. Excavations in 1987 brought extensive finds to light and so it was decided to rebuild the castle. Against the reservations of some historians, modern materials were used and the furniture and paintings were bought on the antique market. 12.10.2015: PoiBesuch: 09/2015 |
