Loch Leven Castle

Loch Leven Castle is located on an island in the lake of the same name near Kinross and was built around 1300. At that time the fort was of strategic importance in the Scottish War of Independence. In the 14th century it was given to William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas and remained in the family for 300 years. In 1565 Mary Stuart visited the fortress as a guest, two years later she was imprisoned here for a year until she managed to escape. She abdicated in favor of her son and never became queen again. In 1675 Sir William Bruce bought Loch Leven Castle, who had built Kinross House on the opposite bank. Today it is in the care of Historic Scotland. Adult 4.70lbs, Child 2.80lbs
