Linlithgow Palace

The palace was built by James I in the 15C to replace a burned down 12C castle on Linlithgow Loch, a prime location. Mary Queen of Scots was born here six days before her father James V died. The complex consists of a gradually growing square with an inner courtyard. This has Renaissance facades that are magnificent by Scottish standards and a fountain from 1538 in the transitional style between Gothic and Renaissance. Adult 5.20lbs, Child 3.20lbs
