Dirleton Castle
Castle / Castle
This castle is near North Berwick. The compact castle with the mighty round tower was built in the 13th century by the Anglo-Norman de Vaux family. In 1298 it was taken by the English and expanded further in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. If you wanted a ruin, it´s still worth exploring inside the walls. Outside there are very beautiful gardens.
The castle is looked after by Historic Scotland and is open all year round. Admission is £4.50 for adults and £2.25 for children.
