Burg Pylos
Castle / Ruins
One of the best preserved castles in Greece, near the port of Pylos. It was built in 1573 to allow the Turks to control the western coast of the Peloponnese. The Battle of Navarino on October 20, 1827 was the decisive event in which the Greeks gained independence from the Ottoman Empire. Last time, the castle complex served as a prison until it was opened to tourism.
